A well-known name and a celebration to match, Delwyn Humphreys made a lasting impression during his time at Aggborough in the 90’s.
Plying his trade as a forward or winger, Shrewsbury-born Humphreys began his career with Welsh outfit Newtown, before joining Bridgnorth Town. He impressed with the Shropshire side to earn a £10,000 move to Aggborough in October 1990.
The transfer represented a significant investment from Harriers, but he would bring his fair share of exciting moments to Aggborough that live long in the memory of plenty of Harriers supporters.
In his first season in red and white, Humphreys netted six goals in 36 appearances, followed by nine goals from 50 matches in his second season. His third season, however, would not be as successful as he managed just two goals from sixteen appearances.
However, after the following 93/94 season would be very fruitful not only for the front man, but for his teammates also. Harriers went on a remarkable run in the FA Cup to reach the fifth round, with Humphreys famously netting the only goal in a fourth round Aggborough victory over Preston North End in front of 7000 spectators, before unleashing his trademark acrobatic celebration.
In total, Humphreys would go on to net 18 goals by the end of the season, an impressive return and his best at Aggborough. That season was bittersweet though for Harriers who, despite finishing top of the Conference, would be denied promotion due to ground grading issues.
The 94/95 season would be his fifth and final Aggborough campaign, and would see him score 13 in 50 appearances.
All in all, the charismatic frontman bagged 48 goals in 182 starts for Harriers before switching to Northwich Victoria for £10,000 in May 1995, the same fee that saw him arrive in Worcestershire.
