HARRIERS Women continued their steady climb up the league table with a 3-2 win over Coventry Sphinx in their last match.
The Reds made the trip still struggling to battle against the absence of players due to injuries and isolation, knowing too well that Coventry had much improved since being beaten 9-1 by Harriers in the reverse fixture before Christmas.
Playing down the slope in the first half, the visitors were slowly getting into the game and went into the lead when Dani Selmes was put through - she rounded the keeper and passed towards the goal. A Sphinx defender tried to clear but put the ball into her own net for the only goal of the half.
After the break, Coventry came out on the front foot and played some very good football and were pushing for an equaliser. Harriers still created chances but couldn’t find the net. Pushing for a second, Harriers were hit when Sphinx scored two quick goals with great through balls to beat the defence and go 2-1 in front.
It was then time to work hard, and it didn’t take long for Selmes to find a bit of space and shoot past the keeper. With time running out, it looked like it was going end level, but Harriers had a corner and despite a scramble in the area, the ball was put home by Lucy Dovey to give Harriers all three points and move them up fifth on 18 points from ten matches.
