HARRIERS meet Port Vale this weekend looking to make it into the Second Round Proper of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup.
The Reds saw off Redditch United with a thumping 4-0 win in the third and final qualifying stage, setting up a tasty looking tie for this Sunday (2pm ko) against league rivals Vale.
The two teams have yet to face off in the West Midlands Regional League Premier Division, but Andy Fisher’s charges will take plenty of confidence from his side’s firm so far this campaign.
They go into Sunday on the back of a vital 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town that moved them up to second in the table – though Harriers have for now played a game more.
Confidence gained from that win will be crucial, says Fisher, who said of the success: “It is a really impressive win. I think we saw a different side to us today. I think the group have worked their absolute socks off.
“We knew it was going to be a really tough game, and I think what we saw today was that pride and passion… we’ve seen snippets of it throughout the season which is why we’ve probably had some positive results, but I think we needed to see that next level of it.
“Playing against a Shrewsbury side like we did today, we needed to see that desire, that passion, that hard work, that aggression, and we’ve seen it from minute one.”
A promising season continues into Sunday, then, with Fisher adding of the meeting with Vale: “I’m excited, I’m really excited. It’s really important that we’ve got some momentum now, following that result. I think we’ve got some confidence in the players.
“There has bene some great performances so we can push on now to a really exciting tie against Port Vale.
“We know we’ve got to face them twice in the league, but what an FA Cup tie. Kidderminster against Port Vale for entry into the Second Round of the FA Cup, we’ll be up for it.
“We’ll attack the game with the same pride and passion as it’s one of our targets – to be up in the top three in the league to get as far as we can in the FA Cup.
“It’s an exciting week and I think it will be another competitive game.”
Harriers v Port Vale takes place, as the majority of Harriers Women’s home games do, at the club’s COSE training ground on Zortech Avenue in Kidderminster.
Supporters are always welcome and not least this Sunday for the Cup tie. Refreshments are available and admission is £3 adults and £1 concessions.
