HARRIERS Women made even more history on Wednesday night by knocking Stourbridge out of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup to reach the Third Round for the first time ever.
The DY10 girls have enjoyed a superb season so far and gave it its biggest highlight yet with the tremendous victory under the lights at Aggborough that came courtesy of a penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 draw.
Around 650 fans turned out on a chilly night to watch the local derby, and it was the home side who struck first, Eloise Harris firing home just before the half-hour.
Harriers enjoyed the best of the first period but the visitors came into it more in the second, one of three changes having the ideal impact with 77 minutes on the clock as Leonie Joyce netted to level the tie.
There were chances at either end in the final minutes as Harriers continued to push their higher graded opposition to the limit, a penalty shoot-out eventually needed to decide the winner.
In the spot-kicks, Harriers always had the advantage having converted their first two, while the Glassgirls were unsuccessful from 12 yards in each of their first couple thanks to the efforts of Ellie-Mai Locke between the sticks.
At 2-0 the hosts had the victory in their grasp and eventually prevailed 4-2 to earn themselves another home tie in the Third Round, where Women’s Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers await.
