Will C. Humphries was a founder member, player and long-serving official during Harriers’ formative years.
An accomplished sprinter and half-back, he represented the club in its first Association football team in 1886. The book notes that Humphries was the only one of the original local amateurs to retain his place regularly when Harriers began engaging professional players during the late 1880s.
Away from the field, he served as joint football secretary with Charlie Jones until pressure of work forced his resignation in 1899. He nevertheless continued to serve the club in other capacities for many years.
