Jesse Pennington briefly became a Harriers player in one of the most striking episodes of the club’s early history.
The West Bromwich Albion captain and current England international signed for Harriers in August 1910 following a contractual dispute with Albion. His arrival caused a sensation nationally, although he appeared only in a practice match after the Football Association declined to register the move.
Pennington subsequently resolved his dispute with Albion, for whom he made 495 first-team appearances, many as captain, and won 21 England caps. He later retired to Stourport-on-Severn.
