Sammy Brookes joined Harriers after spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur.
He joined Wolves in 1909 and went on to make over 220 appearances before leaving in 1922. In that time and either side of the war, he was an FA Cup finalist and the club’s top scorer in two different season.
He moved to Tottenham in 1922 but never quite managed to reach the heights of his Wolves days, scoring just one goal for Spurs before leaving for Southend.
A winger, he returned to the Midlands and linked up at Aggborough with his brother Wilfred Brookes and Billy Boyman during the 1924-25 season.
Brookes scored the late winner when Harriers defeated title rivals Worcester City 1-0 at Aggborough on Boxing Day 1924 in front of an official crowd of 8,975. He was also part of the side which won the Keys Cup that season after finishing level on points with Worcester at the top of the Birmingham League.
