HARRIERS Women suffered County Cup heartbreak on Sunday after an injury-time winner saw them beaten 3-2 at Worcester City.
The cruel semi-final defeat denied the Reds a chance to progress to the final of the WFA Marsh Women's Sunday Cup and defend their crown.
The game got off to a scrappy start, with the first real sight of goal coming in the 15th minute as Phoebe Hill’s shot from around 20 yards out rebounded off the post.
Two minutes later saw a frantic flurry of attempts for Worcester following a corner, with three or four close-range shots all defended off the line by a number of Harriers defenders before Jenkins was able to claim the ball.
Worcester took the lead in the 26th minute through Clark, before Phoebe Hill was able to level things up just nine minutes later, beating the Worcester back line and putting the ball into the back of the net with a composed finish.
The rest of the first half finished how it had begun, with half chances for both teams as they looked to go into the break ahead.
The second half saw both sides aiming to get a foothold in the game and to take the lead. It wasn’t until the 64th minute that Worcester were able to do so, notching through Clark once again with a close-range finish.
Harriers were quick to reply, however, with Hill there to nod home after a shot bounded off the crossbar, making things level once again and netting her second of the game.
The game continued, again, with exchanges of half chances for either side before Worcester were able to net an injury-time winner, with a 93rd-minute goal from Billingsley giving the hosts the win.Recap
