DESPITE a spirited performance from Fisher’s Reds on Sunday, Harriers left Leafield empty-handed after a 2-1 defeat as the battle for survival continues, writes Milja Stevenson.
A sunny Easter Sunday saw Harriers head to Castle Vale Stadium to face promotion-hunting Leafield, a side with a 100% record in 2026 so far.
A changed formation saw Harriers set up with three across the back, while Senna Robinson made her first start since returning from a long-term injury.
A strong battle commenced from the off. Despite Leafield having the greater number of chances, the Harriers defence remained resolute to keep things level.
It was Grace Rogers who put Harriers ahead with a header after the Leafield defence failed to clear a corner. The remainder of the half saw Harriers remain strong defensively, taking the lead into the interval.
The opening stages of the second half saw Leafield dominate possession, creating chances before Leonie Joyce brought the hosts level with a smart finish into the bottom right corner.
Leafield took the lead in the 71st minute, when Gemma Fraser picked up a Pilsbury goal kick and struck from distance to beat the backtracking goalkeeper.
The remainder of the game saw Harriers push for an equaliser, but they were unable to find one, seeing them narrowly defeated.
Speaking after the game, Andy Fisher spoke of his pride in the team and the need to take positives into the final two games of the season.
