HARRIERS Women secured Tier 4 status with a 2-1 comeback win over Sutton Coldfield Town at the Domino’s Arena on Sunday, writes Milja Stevenson.
The excellent result saw Harriers round off the season in style in boss Andy Fisher’s final game in charge.
Knowing a point would be enough to guarantee survival regardless of results elsewhere, Harriers started brightly in an open first 15 minutes. With both sides creating chances, it was the hosts who struck first, as Howard’s looping effort beat Jenkins to give Sutton Coldfield the lead.
Harriers responded well and began to take control of the game, seeing more of the ball and creating a number of opportunities.
Their pressure paid off just before the break, as when Abby Bevan was brought down in the box for a penalty, captain Amber Lawrence stepped up and calmly converted to bring Harriers level at half-time.
Harriers carried that momentum into the second half, dominating much of the possession and seeing various chances. Robinson came close in the 57th minute, with her free-kick crashing off the inside of the post.
Harriers kept pushing, and after plenty of chances, another free-kick opportunity arose in the 87th minute, this time just outside the penalty area. Robinson made it count, curling a fine effort into the left-hand side of the goal to complete the turnaround, and securing three points and survival on the final day.
