AlvechurchPAUL WOTTON spoke warmly of his first experience in the Aggborough dugout after watching Harriers play out a goalless draw with Alvechurch. The manager took charge of his new side at home for the first time on Tuesday evening and, while acknowledging there is plenty still to work on before the National League season begins, enjoyed the opportunity to experience a match night at the stadium. “It’s a beautiful club, brilliant club, really friendly people,” said Wotton. “I met a lot of the stewards and stuff tonight, a lot of the matchday staff, which was great. “We’re all new, we’re all learning and we’re all getting to know each other, but we’ll be OK.” It was also a first taste of Aggborough for many of the players recruited during the summer, with Wotton expecting familiarity to grow as they spend more time on the pitch. “Before the first home game, we’ll train on it a couple of times,” he explained. “The players are new, aren’t they? It’s a beautiful pitch, it’s a great stadium, so I’m looking forward to many more games here.” On the pitch, Wotton was of mixed views after the game and admitted he had hoped to see more from his team in possession against a lively Alvechurch side. “We got the runaround at times,” he admitted. “I thought Alvechurch started the game very, very well. “I was disappointed with us in possession today. We looked a bit leggy as well. We maybe worked too hard yesterday (Monday), but that’s no excuse. “We still had multiple chances and Alvechurch had a couple as well, so it’s a good workout. Lots of boys have got 90 minutes and there’s one game to go. “There’s obviously stuff we need to work on. We know that, and right through the season there’ll be stuff we have to work on. “Overall, I was just a bit disappointed in our play with the ball. Out of possession, we were industrious and worked hard.” The boss went on to say: “Ultimately, they’ve got minutes in their legs and they’ve got a good distance in their legs as well, so it’s all good.” Harriers conclude their pre-season schedule at Stourbridge on Saturday, with Wotton determined to see his side end their preparations positively. “It’s another competitive game, so we want to go there and finish on a high,” he said. “It’s our last game before Hornchurch and we have to make sure we’re ready.”
