PAUL WOTTON is expecting a stern test when Harriers welcome Aldershot Town to Aggborough in the National League on Saturday. Harriers return to home soil for the 12:30pm kick-off after Levi Amantchi’s late goal secured a deserved 1-0 victory over Eastleigh last weekend. Wotton was pleased by the united response from his players and supporters, but has challenged the group to reproduce those standards against energetic opposition. “Everyone was together and united, including the fans, and it was a really good afternoon for us,” he said. “We reacted well physically and mentally. It was a good day for the club, but we need to replicate that again. “We haven’t reinvented the wheel or done anything out of the ordinary. We just ran a bit harder and worked a bit harder.” Aldershot began their campaign with a 1-0 victory at Boston United before suffering a narrow defeat by the same scoreline against Hartlepool United. Wotton knows Shots Manager Scott Davies well and has been impressed by Saturday’s visitors during their opening two fixtures. “They’re fit and energetic, and they’ve got good pace as well,” he explained. “They had a brilliant opening-day win away at Boston. I thought they were unfortunate to lose against Hartlepool because there was nothing in the game and they missed a penalty in the last minute. “You do your homework and due diligence, pick a team and hopefully come out on top, but it’s going to be a tough game.” Having opened their home campaign with three points, Wotton wants Harriers to make Aggborough an imposing venue for visiting sides. He believes the relationship between the team and its supporters will be crucial throughout the season. “We know our home form is going to be key,” he added. “Every club wants to make its home ground a fortress and a hostile place for the away team to play. “It works both ways. It’s up to us to get the crowd up and sometimes we need the crowd to get us up. “We have a responsibility to entertain, work hard, show endeavour and fight, play good football and make the right decisions. “We’re all in it together. It’s not just about the 11 players, but the thousands of fans and all the staff as well. “The fans definitely lifted us last Saturday. We’re looking forward to another home game and we’ll give it a right good go.” Cian Harries (ankle), the only injury absentee from the Eastleigh win, is back in contention for this weekend, says Wotton.
