HARRIERS endured a tough first away game of the season, suffering a 3-0 defeat against Notts County at Meadow Lane on Sunday.
Harriers began the game brightly, creating their first chance in the fifth minute, as Olivia Mitcham headed an Amelia Hiscox cross wide. The visitors continued to threaten, with McFarlane and Hiscox both seeing efforts go off target.
Notts County recorded their first effort in the ninth minute, with Shoniqua Barnes breaking free on the left. However, her ball across the face of goal wasn’t reached by any of the black and white shirts in the area. Harriers came close to opening the scoring in the 18th minute, when a Phoebe Hill ball forward was blocked by the Notts County defence. The ball flew high, allowing Mitcham to flick it on to Morris, who found the back of the net but was flagged for offside.
The exchange of chances continued, with an end-to-end battle taking place throughout much of the first half.
It was Notts County who broke the deadlock in injury time, with Burnett finishing from close range in the third additional minute. Burnett then completed a quickfire double just a minute later, doubling the hosts’ advantage before the half-time whistle.
Notts County extended their lead to 3-0 just nine minutes after the restart, as Barnes fired home.
Harriers continued to search for a way back into the game, with Mitcham, Robinson, Henry and Lawrence all seeing efforts fail to find the back of the net. Notts County also continued to threaten, as they searched for a fourth goal.
The game ended 3-0 to the hosts, as Harriers suffered their first defeat of the season.
Harriers will be looking to bounce back from this defeat with a League Cup fixture against Worcester City Women on Wednesday night at Sixways.
