HARRIERS made it two wins from two in the FAWNL League Cup group stage with a hard-fought 1-0 victory away at Gwalia United on Sunday.
Gwalia started the game brightly and dominated possession in the opening stages, with Harriers having to remain disciplined as the hosts looked to create an early opening.
As the half progressed, Harriers began to grow into the game and started to create opportunities of their own. Hiscox came close to breaking the deadlock on 27 minutes after getting in behind the Gwalia defence, but her effort was saved by the goalkeeper.
The hosts had their best chance of the half seven minutes later, with a curling effort drifting just wide of the post.
Harriers continued to threaten from distance, with Morris twice coming close. Her effort on 38 minutes was diverted by the goalkeeper before being cleared, while another attempt five minutes later went wide as the game went into the interval goalless.
Harriers came out strongly after the restart and began to put the Gwalia defence under pressure, with their efforts rewarded on 54 minutes. Hiscox broke beyond the Gwalia back line before showing great composure to lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper and into the net, giving Harriers a 1-0 lead.
Harriers looked to build on their advantage, with Henry going close to doubling the lead on 72 minutes after meeting a corner, but her header drifted wide.
The hosts increased the pressure in the final 15 minutes as they searched for an equaliser, but Harriers remained resolute at the back.
Henry almost added a second on 84 minutes after winning possession and driving towards goal, but her effort was saved. Harriers continued to threaten from the resulting pressure, with a corner shortly afterwards headed wide.
Gwalia continued to push during the closing stages, but Jenkins remained composed in the Harriers goal, comfortably holding a curling effort in the 89th minute.
Henry then tested the Gwalia goalkeeper from distance in the 90th minute, with her powerful effort held as Harriers looked to put the game beyond doubt.
Six minutes of added time followed, but Harriers stood firm to see out the result and secure another League Cup victory, making it back-to-back wins in the Group Stage and maintaining their perfect start to the competition.
