ETHAN Moore’s impact from the bench on Friday night offered another example of the strength Paul Wotton believes is developing throughout his Harriers squad.
The former Sunderland and Gateshead youngster was introduced during the second half of the 2-0 victory over Hartlepool United and made his mark with the direct run and delivery that enabled Callum Stewart to wrap up the points.
It was an impressive contribution from Moore, who Wotton feels is continuing to learn and develop as he pushes for further opportunities.
“Ethan’s a young lad who’s learning what we want him to become, what we know he can become and that’s what he does,” said the Harriers boss.
“I think Owen Evans, for me so far, is as good as I’ve seen at left-back and Ethan does that to Owen in training, so it tells you how good he can be.
“It was really good wing play and I was really pleased for Cally because his work-rate deserved that and 2-0 was a lot easier than 1-0!”
Moore’s contribution also underlined a wider point for Wotton, whose side have responded impressively since the opening-day defeat at Hornchurch.
Competition for places means some members of the squad have had to remain patient during the recent run, but the manager has been pleased with the attitude of those waiting for their opportunity.
“There’s subs at the minute who are chomping at the bit to get on, but unfortunately it’s not their time at the moment,” he explained.
“Their time will come, but we’re in [on Saturday], they’ll work hard, the boys will recover.”
That mentality has been important during a run in which Wotton has continually stressed the importance of work rate, desire and commitment, regardless of results.
“The boys are working very, very hard,” he added. “The work rate and the desire is there and you’ve always got a chance in any game of football if you’re committed to the badge and you’re committed to your mate next to you.”
