HARRIERS battled back from a goal down to secure a hard-fought point on the road with a 1-1 draw against Sporting Khalsa.
Amelia Hiscox’s second-half strike earning earned the visitors a deserved share of the spoils in WNL Division 1 Midlands despite trailing at the break.
The game kicked off with a positive opening from Harriers, who created a few chances without really testing the Khalsa goalkeeper in the opening stages.
The hosts registered their first real effort on goal in the 16th minute, taking aim from range, but Jenkins watched the effort comfortably over the crossbar.
Harriers were then awarded a penalty just two minutes later after a handball inside the box, with Amber Lawrence stepping up, but Khalsa goalkeeper Smith dived the correct way to make the save.
Harriers continued to look for an opener, with Whittick’s low free kick into the box cleared by the Khalsa defence, before Jenkins was called into action at the other end and produced a great save to deny the hosts from close range following another free kick.
Whittick went close again in the 24th minute, taking aim from a free kick after a foul on Henry, but her effort narrowly missed the target. Khalsa continued to pose a threat, with Jenkins doing brilliantly to deny the hosts from a corner on the half-hour mark.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, with Harriers forced to go into the interval trailing by a goal.
Harriers looked for a response after the restart and came close to an equaliser in the 52nd minute, as Lawrence played a lovely forward ball towards Robinson, but the Khalsa goalkeeper came off her line to intercept.
The equaliser arrived just a minute later, as Robinson showed lovely movement to pick up the ball on the side of the box before delivering a cross towards Hiscox, who met it at the edge of the 18-yard box and fired into the back of the net.
Harriers came close to completing the turnaround moments later, with Henry breaking forward and delivering a ball into the box, but Hiscox’s effort went wide, before Mitcham narrowly failed to reach another dangerous ball into the box.
The hosts remained a threat as the game entered its final stages, but it was Harriers who looked the more likely to find a winner. A Congrave free kick caused problems in the 74th minute, with Robinson’s initial effort well saved by Smith before McCann-Lloyd saw her follow-up blocked. Mitcham then fired over from inside the six-yard box.
Robinson went close again six minutes later, seeing her free kick from around 20 yards palmed away by Smith as Harriers continued to push for a second, but neither side could find a winner.
