HARRIERS return to Aggborough on Bank Holiday Monday looking to build on an excellent 3-1 victory at Southend United. Lewis Walker struck twice before substitute Callum Stewart added a composed third as Paul Wotton’s side produced a performance full of fight, desire and quality in front of a superb travelling support. Wotton was immensely proud of the result, but attention has quickly turned towards Monday’s National League meeting with Barrow. “Tonight is our night and we have to enjoy it, but we’ve got another game on Monday and we have to recover for it,” said the Manager. “We’ll do the right things, monitor what the players are eating and drinking and how much sleep they’re getting. “We’ll be recovering on Sunday. Monday is a big game for us and one we’re looking forward to.” Stewart’s eye-catching contribution from the bench has given Wotton plenty to consider ahead of Barrow’s visit. The 21-year-old made a significant impact after his introduction at Southend before keeping his composure to score the goal which secured the points. “He came on and was a menace,” Wotton added. “What I liked was that I felt he was sticking two fingers up to me, which I love and saying: ‘You should have played me.’ “He’s given me a headache now for Monday, but they were all great.” Wotton also reserved special praise for the Harriers fans who made the long journey to Essex and backed the team throughout another memorable National League away night. He hopes the result can help create another excellent atmosphere at Aggborough, where Harriers have already enjoyed strong backing during their opening home fixtures. “The Harriers fans were brilliant and different class,” he said. “Even when we conceded quite early and you think: ‘Here we go,’ they rallied around us. “When they’re like that, it helps the players. It 100 per cent does, there’s no secret to it. “The boys showed a lot of heart and you can see them getting fitter and fitter as the games go on.”

Harriers v Barrow: The Archive

Meetings between Harriers and Barrow date back to the 1980s - indeed the Reds and Bluebirds were regular rivals in the old Alliance Premier days of Casey, Davies and Tuohy. Promotion to the EFL for Harriers in 2000 saw a break of around a decade in meetings before Barrow's ascension back to non-league's top tier saw things renewed in 2010. The last Aggborough victory against Monday's opponents came in 2013. Ryan Rowe and Jamille Matt were on target in a 2-0 win for Steve Burr's side.
